Q&A: Why are Females more expensive?

Excellent question!

I, myself have been surprised by the difference in the prices of females vs males. There are a few reasons that I can related to why I have price our female higher.

1) Supply & Demand: There is definitely a greater demand for females. Why? See the next reasons...

2) Some people feel females make gentler pets. I do not agree with this in general. My experience is that a neutered male is likely to be more trainable, gentle and teachable than an un-neutered female. However, Rocxy is an exception. So, what do I know...

3) Breeding. If people are considering breeding, they would likely prefer a female. We would actually prefer that Hazel not be bred, and are willing to negotiate the differential price to an owner who will get her fixed. I can discuss this on a case-by-case basis.

4) Hazel just happens to be amazing. She has captured our hearts, and, even though we really shouldn't probably keep another dog right now, we would be willing to keep her. That is the biggest reason we are charging more for her. She is the perfect dog. She is our favorite color with a thick shiny golden wavy coat that will not shed. She is the smallest (we bred for small size), and may not be much more than 20 pounds. So far she is showing a very gentle, secure and easygoing personality. She is smart and learns quickly (potty training & weaning). She already wants to please you. We just love her!
